The ‘Hot’ Project
My first interpretation of ‘hot’ was scoville levels of heat.
I created the identity and packaging for my own hot sauce brand called ‘Hawt Sawce by Rise + Shine’. I wanted to create a fun but kind of intense and loud brand that distinctively has super spiciness at
it’s core.
To support this branding, I created a short promotional video creating type using the sawce.
My second interpretation of ‘hot’ was heat of energy and movement.
I shot this short video at a jazz club to get the essence of a personal music experience where the performers were all fun and immersed into the collective sound they were making.
After shooting the footage I created contact sheets where each frame was individually scanned in, creating a kind of buzzy texture to the images.
This effect to me gives a warm, pure nostalgic look which brings focus to the heat of energy and movement I was looking for.
Moving Poster
My third interpretation of ‘hot’ was visualising temperature heat.
I created a moving poster inspired by the visuals of infrared technology to promote a fictional exhibition which explores the movement of heat.
I created this work on After Effects, aiming to replicate the look of a heated object interacting with another.
My fourth interpretation of ‘hot’ is related to mental health.
I wanted to visualise the feeling of being overwhelmed so I shot side angle footage of a subject screaming in which I masked to reveal his expression on a solid background.
I filmed footage which I thought reflected the complexities of the emotion. I included close-ups of refracted light on a river, an alarm system and a streetlight.
I chose a calming piano track to play in the background as a sort of contrast to the feeling, making it feel less ominous and more gentler as something people just have to deal with.
