The Four Corners
Produced as a b5 spiral-bound publication, this project demonstrates the identity of a barbershop quartet event based in Central Park with the goal of bringing people from an older generation back to the famous Naumburg Bandshell to dance and sing again.
As a brief for this project, I was given four pointers to construct an identity; ‘a choir’ ‘for the elderly’ ‘in a capital city’ ‘which is fun, playful and inquisitive’.

Audience
With the brief I was given, it was important to me to create something with meaning and connect to a certain niche of people.
I eventually decided on barbershop quartet music, which has a rich history originating in the city (specifically at the Naumburg Bandshell) and so would have nostalgic resonance to elderly New Yorkers. It also connects with the ‘choir’ aspect in quite a beautiful way in how it synergises people singing and dancing together, in the hub of a diverse city with people that are from all around the world.
I wanted every part of this project to feel like it has the consistent feeling of a barbershop quartet, putting focus into the four connections they have. I wanted each four sections to have their own individuality but work better alongside each other, much like a quartet.
This was considered in the colour pallet, The Four Corner’s logo identity, cover design (inspired by Op Art from the era of the original quartets) and type layouts.
